A Complicated Morass of Uncontrolled Speculation

As is my way, I scanned the latest drivel on Blinkoncrime.com recently. The website is a ghost town for the most part, with one thread being updated by posters every so often.

The most recent posting has a link to this article in The New Yorker : https://www.newyorker.com/books/page-turner/true-crime-addict-and-the-problem-of-internet-sleuths?verso=true

The article is a review of a book, James Renner’s “True Crime Addict: How I Lost Myself in the Mysterious Disappearance of Maura Murray”, written by a self described internet crime investigator who the article author describes as a “hanger(s)-on”.

I feel like the critical reading skills of the Blink audience, and Blink herself, are likely challenged by the article. At first glance it appears to be a good thing for the book and the author. Upon reading the article, it clearly is not. Shannon Stoy seems to proudly mention on her website that she knows Renner personally, which is just the kind of thing that she likes to do to impress her scant collection of readers. Comically, the author and book that she aligns herself with is described by The New Yorker article as the “embodie(ment of) every problem that arises when online obsessives are infected with delusions of detective grandeur.”

There were some striking parallels between Blink and the description of Renner and the online sleuthing community. The phrase “delusions of detective grandeur” is particularly fitting when describing Shannon Christina Moser Stoy, or whatever alias she’s going by these days.

The New Yorker article accurately described sites like Blinkoncrime.com as “a complicated morass of uncontrolled speculation. It certainly isn’t justice, not for Murray or for her family.”

In my case, Shannon Moser’s ridiculously flawed internet investigating was not justice for my kidnapped neighbor, for her family, for me, or for anyone. It was just a prime example of the delusions of detective grandeur of a hanger on named Shannon Moser.

Blink : The heartless idiot

A brush up on history before I begin.

Shannon Stoy, Christina Stoy, Blink…whatever she is calling herself now, published ill informed insinuations and accusations against me when my neighbor was abducted. I called her on it, and she refused to retract or delete her blog posts.

So I began a campaign to expose her as the horrible person that she is, which was fairly easy, given her documented track record of trying and failing to be a sensationalist on the internet. Blink’s website hasn’t been updated in a very long time, and it appears that it is now a chat thread for three or four people, rehashing the same stuff day in and day out. It’s mostly just wild speculation about various criminal cases and pandering to the ego of Christina Stoy.

That’s a quick recap of my relationship with Blink. She wrote a bunch of verifiably untrue things about me, so I fought back.

This last week, there were indictments in the case of my neighbor, and it turns out of course I had nothing to do with it. I’m just a guy who tried to help find a little girl, and was dragged through the mud on the internet by a heartless fool because of it.

Reading an article in my local paper today, I was reminded of Blink. Her accusations have continued to follow me these last few years, and it’s nice to know that beyond a horrible person being removed from the streets and meeting justice for his crimes, the discussion regarding me an my neighbor can be closed.

That discussion can also be closed regarding my neighbors, as they are vindicated of involvement. The local paper ran a front page article essentially saying : Sorry. It’s commendable that in light of recent discovery, journalists offer apology based on the discovery.

Blink would never do that, because her greatest flaw isn’t that she made a mistake. We all make mistakes. In fact, I don’t believe she made a mistake. She knew what she was doing, which was twisting things to paint a picture that she thought would get her publicity and attention. That’s a mean a thing to do at the expense of another human being, and it’s a window into her greatest flaw : she is heartless and doesn’t care.

She would of course counter that she cares about victims and children. To which I reply : How does sundering my name, making things up about me, and spreading disinformation regarding a criminal case that have followed me for years help anyone?

It doesn’t. All it does is hurt. Everyone involved. Except for Blink. For her, it’s good attention. It feeds her ego and her need to be the one in the know, the one who has the dish, the gossip who pretends to be a journalist.

If anything, I like to think that I had a hand in removing her as an active presence on the internet. Her site is a ghost town. Maybe she just has other things going on, or maybe I exposed her so broadly that she shrunk away.

Which would be terrific. Because for once in her careless, harmful, reckless mudslinging blogging career, the hurt she causes bounced back.

You’d expect a person who accused someone of involvement in a horrible crime would apologize when the truth is revealed.

A decent person would do that. But we’re talking about Shannon Stoy, so….I’m not holding my breath.

Other People

Every so often, someone contacts me about Blinkoncrime and Shannon Stoy. Another person dragged through the mud.

It’s always the same thing. Someone sharing their experience, and thanking me for the information and posting I’ve done.

It’s bad enough that horrible things happen to people. Even worse, in a time of darkness, it’s very upsetting to find yourself assailed by crazy people on the internet. Questioning the things you say, digging into your personal life, coming at you and writing things about you as though they are half brained arm chair detectives with nothing better to do than spend their days harassing strangers via the internet.

Although you tell yourself that this is the case, that these people are ill informed, lonely, irrational and thoughtless, it’s still upsetting to read the things they write about you. The mountain of inane idiocy simply compounds the trauma you’ve been through.

I’m glad that, in the middle of that, I can be a slight solace to people. It’s a piece of comfort to start looking around and find out that you aren’t alone, that others have been through the same thing, with the same person. It’s truly not you, it’s her.

The latest story I heard was of Shannon Stoy harassing someone via social media, and disseminating misinformation. An upsetting and common story. One I hear regularly.

When I first read the moronic things that she’d made up about me, I was primarily angry that a reporter had written an article about me without contacting me first for my side of the story. Then, as I dug, I discovered that Shannon Stoy is far from a reporter, and that talking about people without considering anything other than her own sensational and ill informed narrative, is her forte.

So I compiled that information and made it easier to find for people.

It’s nice to get that feedback, to know that it has been effective.

Rolling Stone, Brian Williams and Blinkoncrime

Rolling Stone magazine recently retracted it’s expose on a sexual assault at a college campus. It seems their fact checking wasn’t up to standards, and after some scrutiny they retracted.

Brian Williams, a well known network talking head, is currently off air because of inconsistencies in his recounting of his time in a war zone.

When I hear mention of those two things in mainstream media, it always makes me think of Shannon Stoy and her libel factory, Blinkoncrime.com. The key difference being, S. Christina Stoy never retracts, never corrects, never adjusts. It is hilarious to me that a person who possibly aspires toward journalism would leave such obvious evidence of low integrity and journalistic aptitude laying around.

But there it is. Search her website and the internet and it’s plain as day : She has a blatant disregard for the truth. It made me laugh when I first started looking into her, after she smeared my name across the internet. She has published under several names. Shannon Stoy, S. Christina Stoy, Christina Stoy, Blink. As I read more and more accounts by people with stories like mine, I couldn’t help but get the feeling that she was running from her reputation.

Journalists retract and correct. Blink changes her name.

Blink on Crime, Fear Monger

I read this article today and it reminded me of S. Christina Stoy and her fear mongering blog.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2014/12/04/364745790/food-babe-or-fear-babe-as-activist-s-profile-grows-so-do-her-critics?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=npr&utm_term=nprnews&utm_content=202604

There are some parallels there that stuck out. I haven’t really followed the Food Babe, so I’ll reserve comment on her. But reading the story of an amateurish blogger who uses sensationalism and scare tactics to drive up her own site. The idea that her misinformation might be to the detriment of her readers doesn’t seem to deter either woman.

The line, “”What she does is exploit the scientific ignorance and fear of her followers,” seems a direct fit to Blinkoncrime.com. Instead of scientific ignorance, I think Blink exploits the investigative procedural ignorance and logical impairments of her followers.

I’ve always known the world is full of snake oil salesman who will stoop to low levels to pitch their brand of ridiculousness. Now, when I read about another one, particularly on the internet, it immediately makes me think of Shannon Stoy.

Shannon Stoy – Tragedy Vampire

This morning on the radio I heard an interview with David Fincher, the director of Gone Girl.

He used a great phrase, that I believe describes Blinkoncrime and Christina Stoy. Tragedy Vampirism.

While outlets like Nancy Grace and Blinkoncrime will say they are working toward the public good and on behalf of societal interest, to the observant onlooker, it’s so clear that there is an ulterior motive. They are sucking away on the tragedy of life for their own fame and popularity.

Pay attention to the comments section of Blinkoncrime, as well as her postings. See how often she makes it about her. Shannon Stoy is not giving blood to the community of victims of the world, she sucking theirs.

Ebola and Blinkoncrime

I listened to an interesting piece this weekend about the reporting of the Ebola outbreak. An infectious disease specialist commented that even articles that are accurately reporting on the outbreak can do damage with sensationalized headlines.

EBOLA OUTBREAK LIKELY TO GO GLOBAL

While this is technically true, as the outbreak might spread in isolated instances on a global level,it harkens much more apocalyptic images. It is extremely unlikely, statistically almost impossible, for the virus to hit the average person in the United States. But headlines like that elicit fear and emotion from the reader. As they are designed to. The infectious disease specialist was commenting that reporting like that has no benefit to society and is actually simply harmful.

It reminded me of Christina Stoy and her sensationalized website. Writing in the most inflammatory and insinuating way possible, she elicits fear, emotion, outrage and suspicion from her readers, where in actuality there is little foundation for alarm. She tagged my name, along with the name of my spouse (both of whom were praised by police for our Good Samaritan-ism and volunteerism while searching for a lost child) along side Jerry Sandusky and Jordan Van Der Sloot. Shock pseudo-journalism at its finest.

In my case, she even added false information to the mix to further the suspicion. I had a good laugh as I listened to the interview, thinking to myself that if Christina Stoy were reporting on Ebola, the message would be clear that the world is ending we’re all going to die from infection.

A New School Year Has Begun

A whole new group of parents, meeting the special education resource teacher for their child. Maybe Googling her name.

And finding an article with her name tagged at the top about the disappearance of a little girl. Something she had nothing to do with.

Shannon Stoy doesn’t care about that. One of the first results under my spouse’s name on search engines is an article plagued with mistakes and libel. The author is fully aware of both the mistakes she’s made and the impact it’s had on lives, but she simply doesn’t care.

My spouse is a wonderful woman, who’s dedicated her life toward the teaching and mentoring of children, who works directly with the underadvantaged and learning disabled. S. Christina Stoy doesn’t care about, doesn’t care that she is harming her professional reputation. That she is casting a shadow with lies.

Christina Stoy might say that I’ve done the same to her, with my campaign online. The difference is, everything I’ve said is true and grounded in fact. Christina Stoy is the culprit of a libelous article with mistakes intended to cast suspicion on me. And in turn, by tagging her name, my spouse.

My spouse had nothing to do with a child’s abduction. She has a letter from police clearing her of wrongdoing and praising her actions. She was never a suspect in any crime to begin with.

She is only tagged in the Blink on Crime article for two reasons.

1. She is my spouse, and because I left my house voluntarily to search for a lost girl, I have put her in the spotlight.

2. Christina Stoy is heartless and unscrupulous.

It breaks my heart that the woman I love is so tarnished because of me. While I didn’t do anything wrong, and was merely acting in the best interest of a lost child, that action brought on the sensationalism of Blink on Crime.

Consecutive Days of Lying by Christina Stoy

Christina Stoy printed a libelous article and interview about me. When I approached her about it, she said Name one lie. Name one mistruth that is not an opinion, if it can be substantiated, I will absolutely correct it without pause.”

However, when I corrected her and itemized her lies and libel, she responded not by correcting any of it. Rather, she refused to publish my correction and left it all in place.

While Shannon Stoy has repeatedly said she offered me every chance to comment on her site, the itemized post correcting the inaccuracy of her article was never published. Having an idea of the moral character of Ms. Stoy, I took a screen shot of as it awaited approval by Shannon Stoy. Scrolling through the comments section to July, the correction of her distortion of publicly released documents remains unposted.
